About
SEELEGUMES

RATIONALE

The wild and agricultural floras in all WBC and other SEE regions are rather rich  in legume species. Many of these have became and nearly forgotten, remained a part of wild flora despite its great agronomic potential.

STRATEGY

The strategic goal of this project is to establish an efficient, functional  and sustainable network on the genetic resources of annual legume species  in the countries of SEE and to enable it to be fit into the similar existing EU and other international networks.

WORKPLAN

2 work packages:

WP1 - Gathering SEE Legumes’ will be focused on expeditions, mapping, collecting,

ex situ and in situ preservation and construction of the database with accessions

of collected species

WP2 - Describing SEE legumes’ will be focused on a conventional and molecular

characterization of the collected species and an analysis of their nutritional

and other values.

DISSEMINATION

At the end of each of both project years, there will be held an annual meeting

where the main achievements of the project will be reported, presented and disseminated.

BENEFIT

The participants from the WBC regions should have a benefit in all segments of their research and networking, while the participants from EU will have an opportunity to demonstrate their excellence in the field and play an essential role in assisting the WB participants in developing their research and networking capacities.

The joint catalogue and the reference collection will be regarded as a common good and will be maintained and utilized to the benefit of all project participants, becoming a part of a wider European genetic resource network.
